I arrived back from France (well Turin in Italy) on Sunday evening, around 9pm, absolutely shattered. I’d forgotten how difficult winter holidays are - such opposing feelings. The adrenaline and excitement of throwing oneself down a frozen mountain, strapped to two planks of wood, is incredible. Yet the physical pain in ones body, the mental exhaustion of 8 hours concentration each day and the stress of lugging the skis, poles, boots and other clobber from lift to hotel for 6 days make one wonder if it is all worth it. Couple this with the endless waiting around on the last day which blights any holiday - the packing, getting out of the hotel room early, waiting for the coach to the airport, queuing at check-in, waiting in the airport lounge, the sad flight home etc, makes me never want to go away again!

Who am I kidding - I had a great time! Really really great! It certainly was worth it. I love skiing - despite my injuries - bring on next season - Canada next time me thinks!

I took the cast off my wrist myself on Monday - it was getting in the way. It may have been a premature, short-sighted mistake I may live to regret however. My wrist is still sore and bruised and I have very little movement. I went to see the doctor this morning who has referred me to the orthopedic depatment at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. Great. Another X-ray and possible MR scan. Maybe another cast. Certainly loads more waiting around.

I didn’t say how or what happened did I? Nothing exciting - another lame wrist injury. I fell forwards on a rather easy blue run, put my arms out to stop the fall and bent my right wrist under my weight. I’ve ruptured the scapho-lunate ligament in my hand apparently. As Sean said - my wrists are my Kryptonite - I like that - it implies I am superman!

So 2007 is here. Wowzer. I’m excited. This year is gonna be cool! I’ve signed up to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to raise money for the Amani Childrens Home (this is my written guarantee that I will do it!) I’m already planning my fundraising activities - such as dressing up as a mountain and parading Churchill Square on a Saturday and running the Brighton Half Marathon. Any other good fundraising ideas anyone? My personal target is £2982 (to beat Laurence last year!) I may use the time while i’m there to travel a bit of Africa too - make the most of the carbon emissions!
