Been a while since I updated, but I can explain…. I´ve just been having too much fun!

Sydney was simply awesome. Big thanks to Alex and Dorota who were fantastic hosts and showed me a really great time. My Sister is also in Sydney so it was like taking a brief break back home. After Sydney and a 14 hour flight to LA where I landed before I left (thanks International Date Line) I continued on to Mexico where I began an organised tour of Central America with Intrepid.

After nearly 2 months of lone travelling it was so nice to have everything done for me. On some days in South Asia and India, it felt like a full time job
Continue reading Central American Adventure

Yesterday morning I finally escaped India. Humppppffffhhh

Ironically, my last day was probably the best. I went on the famous ‘slum tour’ of the Dharavi slums in Mumbai with Reality tours. The biggest slum in Mumbai and the highest earning, dubbed the economic miracle and even visited by Richard Branson, Dharavi has an economy of around $700m a year in recycling and manufacturing and about 1million slum dwellers in a tiny section of the city. The way these guys live and work is truly incredible. Narrow alleys and tiny buildings all perfectly functional like a normal city – running water, electricity – even schools and police, however incredibly incredibly poor.

First we saw the tiny micro factories which make heavy industrial crushing
Continue reading Slums of Mumbai to the towers of Singapore

I arrived in Chennai yesterday from lovely Sri Lanka for my long stint of lone traveling around the world. Chennai is just as crazy as Mumbai. I guess most of the large Indian cities are similar – roads packed with vehicles honking horns, people everywhere; crammed into backstreets, sleeping under sheets or just on the side of the road. Unlike Mumbai, Chennai didn’t appear to have much by the way of pavements, so I spent most of my time walking through the filth & dodging tuk-tuks, motorbikes and buses in the road.

I stayed in the very simple Paradise Guest house in Triplicane, very close to the main tourist office and a string of cheap but highly rated hotels including the Broadlands
Continue reading The highs and lows of Chennai
