In reality, Lapa is far too dangerous to take photos in, so find below photos mainly taken by stealth or from our flat in Lapa. Whatever you do, don’t take a camera of any value to you under the main Lapa bridge – especially on the Escalada Sceladron side on the way to Santa Teresa. Here, there are street kids sponsored by the Police robbing tourists. We were robbed here along with at least 4 separate incidents with other tourists who we met – all robbed in the same tourist trap. You’ve been warned.
Lapa is safe to party
Apart form this, Lapa is safe place to visit. There are some great bars, cachaca stalls and nightlife on a Friday night – really great and I recommend going. Just don’t take valuables. The bondi tram also goes from close to Lapa and of course, over the Lapa Bridge. You can also take organised tours. They are very safe.
