Today is a bank holiday in Rio, so there isn’t much going on except sunbathing and relaxing (as well as drilling of course – there is always someone drilling on a bank holiday!) It’s given me a good chance to catch up on some pictures from around the world which I thought I’d share.
As one of my favourite countries in the world, I was saddened to hear of the volcano and then the storm which hit Guatemala this week. Boston.com always have some incredible pictures of current events and this weeks gallery of Guatemala pictures are no exception. Two particularly awesome pictures are Picture number 5 and Picture number 34. I hope little Melanie and the family with whom I stayed in San Jorge are unharmed.
Some other great photos I have enjoyed are those of Iceland, a country top of my no-plans-to-visit-but-really-want-to list. Again, Boston.com have issued some fantastic photos of the eyjafjallajokull volcano including number 4 of the car in the ash, the long road into the cloud of number 20 and the lightening within the ash of the last 5, particularly number 35
Finally – readers of the BBC News website in the UK will be unfamiliar with the amount of advertising wrapped around news stories shown to readers abroad, so what many people in the UK won’t have noticed is the copious amount of Shell advertising being displayed around the BP oil spill stories. Not sure if Shell marketing are intending to do this as it’s probably rotational or keyword based, but a little in poor taste given the nature of events in the gulf of Mexico ey Shell…
