Bird Flu

Category: Miscellaneous |

Apologies for the lack of updates. There’s a reason. I’ve had Flu. Bird Flu I tell thee!.

It started last Monday when we had a dramatic leak in our office. I’m standing by a colleague’s desk, when there’s a ‘drip drip drip’ from the ceiling. I go upstairs to investigate the source but before we’ve even had a chance to look at anything, pandemonium breaks out as a large section of the ceiling collapses and filthy stagnant rain water starts gushing into the centre of the office. Everyone just stands about, pointing and taking pictures on camera phones, whilst I frantically run around unplugging computers and putting them on tables. My bravery didn’t take long to turn into stupidity. My trousers became soaked in seagull effluent, my lungs filled with gut wrenching fumes from the rancid fluid raining down and I soon regretted not just standing at the side with my camera phone as well!

By about 10pm that evening, my head was really starting to ache, as, oddly, were all my muscles. I put the aches and pains down to the 8 mile run I had completed the previous night, but thought it best to get an early night regardless. I awoke on Tuesday with the aches across my whole body continuing. Miraculously, the office was practically clean by 10am – so into work we went. I sat at my desk feeling worse and worse – hot flushes, coughing - aches growing in magnitude. Not a normal cold. No sore throat. Bird Flu for sure!

At 4pm I couldn’t continue so headed home early. I got under my duvet and fell asleep in front of the TV where I remained, shivering and shattered until Thursday afternoon. By Friday I felt well enough to work with Jonny at home, and make the weekend footie trip up to Manchester, but even now it is a struggle to walk and breathing in the cold pains me.

So - my Half Marathon training has been temporarily put on hold – which I am particularly annoyed about. There are only 3 weeks left and i’ve only run a handful of 10k’s and one 8miler. I set up a Just giving account to support my charity - Amani childrens Home in Tanzania (more on this later) - so please donate if you can :-)
